Motorcycles have been in the news a lot lately. We wrote recently about a bill in the Nevada State Legislature that would have allowed motorcycles to share or “split” lanes with cars when traffic was moving slowly, which was aimed at reducing low speed auto injury accidents in Northern Nevada. Unfortunately, the recent news is on the other end of the safety spectrum, with reports of a recent motorcycle accident in Reno that left the rider with multiple injuries. The rider was initially reported to be in critical condition, but is currently in stable condition, at least as of last reports, after being transported to Renown Hospital by personnel from the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA). The accident in question occurred when a deputy sheriff from the Washoe County Office gave initial pursuit to a motorcycle the sheriff observed speeding recklessly. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, putting on his lights and attempting to catch the speeding motorcycle. However, when the motorcyclist sped up to speeds thought to be over 100 miles per hour, the sheriff’s deputy stopped in his hot pursuit due to the possible safety issues regarding other motorists on the freeway. The deputy did continue after the motorcyclist, but not at chase speeds nor with his emergency lights on, according to some reports. A short time later, troopers found what is thought to be the same motorcycle, a 2004 Honda CBR 600 F4, color red, crashed with the driver having been thrown from the bike. It was assumed, based on physical evidence at the crash site, that a hard right hand curve in the roadway was not handled properly by the driver of the motorcycle, leading him to bang into the guardrail and throw the rider from his bike, leading to his injuries. The accident occurred around 9:30 pm in the evening in the Panther Valley area of Reno, on the exit ramp from US 395 onto North Virginia St. If you’re injured in a vehicle accident in Washoe County, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can take care of your case while you take care of healing; call us today for a free consultation.
